  • Flower Waste Removal Booming Following Festival reports Roll Off Dumpster Rental

(Transportation-News.com, March 17, 2013 ) Tampa, FL -- Chen Ziuzheng has spent 15 yuan to have two pots of Nianjui and a large peach blossom branch carries out of her home on Wednesday.

“I buy the flowers before Spring Festival every year and have them dumped after the festival,” she said. Chen lives on the fifth-floor of an apartment in the housing estate in Guangzhou's Haizhu district.

“They are too heavy to carry from my home to the estate's waste collection center when my children have left home for work,” she stated frankly.

Chen is just one of many within the provincial capital who are currently removing flowers that have faded after the start of the Spring Festival on February 10.

According to the environmental sanitation employee in the city's Nonglinxia Road, workers have had to rack up overtime in order to handle the orders for festive flowers that are being removed from houses and are now the project of the local government agencies, companies, and residents following the Lunar New Year.

“Usually, the dumping of flowers and potted plants will not come to an end before the Lantern Festival, which is the 15th day of the first month of the lunar Chinese calendar,” says an environmental sanitation worker.

The Lunar New Year celebration is usually at the end of the Latern Festival.

“Several weeks after the festival there are always the busiest periods for the environmental sanitation workers in the southern metropolis,” he added.

The administration committee that is in charge of flower street fair stated that nearly 92.7 million yuan of flowers changed hands over the three-day Spring Festival flower fair. The celebration attracted 8.78 million buyers and visitors alike.
It has been estimated that over 10,000 metric tones of potted plants, flowers, tree branches, and other festive products are abandoned annually by the city residents.
