  • Slowing Car Insurance Rates

(Transportation-News.com, August 11, 2013 ) San Jose, CA -- According to Consumer Federation of America’s Mark Romano, car accident and damage claims are just keeping up with the inflation of car insurance. He has a few tips for helping to lower car insurance rates and make sure that coverage is worth the money being paid for.

First, drivers should report any and all accidents, even if they are minor, to a cop. A defect in the car’s computer system may not show up for several weeks. Reporting is different than a claim. Reports don’t cause your rates to go up like claims and tickets do, and if drivers at least report their accident to the car insurance company, they know an accident has happened, and if a problem does emerge, there is less of a problem when compensation.

There are several smartphone applications that allow drivers to record their accidents for evidence during a claim. WreckCheck, for instance, will guide drivers step-by-step about taking photos of the accident and obtaining information for the other driver and witnesses.

Last but not least, drivers should use a garage or repair shop that their company has recommended. This may help cut corners and costs, especially if the garage offers discounts to that insurance company.
