  • Greenwood Locksmith Service Warns Community: Be Wary of Rogue Locksmiths

(Transportation-News.com, February 18, 2015 ) Birmingham, MI – Many people needing emergency locksmith service turn to the Internet to find a locksmith quickly. Usually, there are many choices. Several of those choices seem appealing since they advertise that they charge only $15 to $25 for service. Birmingham service provider Greenwood Locksmith warns that these are usually scams and will cost the customer much more.

"60 seconds, that's all it takes to solve a common lockout," explains Greenwood Locksmith. "Within those 60 minutes, the price of your locksmith can go from a $15 initial quote, to a $50 bill."

Oakland County service provider Greenwood Locksmith asks homeowners to be alert on contacting lock technicians operating illegally. "These people can be everywhere, ready to abuse helpless customers especially in times of emergency."

The Greenwood locksmith service blames rogue locksmiths as predators, giving the locksmith industry a bad impression. They acknowledge that people are right to be skeptical of people in its field.

Consumers can be ripped off easily by the bait-and-switch method these locksmiths commonly use. 10 Investigates, an investigative division of a station serving Tampa and Sarasota, recently covered an encounter with these rogue providers on a press release found on http://www.wtsp.com/story/news/investigations/2015/02/05/misleading-locksmiths-run-amok/22922279/.

Noah Pransky, reporter of 10 Investigates, relates his report. One of the interviewees, an ex-worker for a rogue locksmith company, shares that the bait-and-switch happens in the middle of the transaction. Customers are given a base quote but the technician asks for a different price.

This misleads many customers, who mostly are unable to say no.

Locksmith quotes skyrocket, depending on the car. Customers who had better cars and appear to be wealthier are scammed into paying up to $200 for a car lockout job.

Similar to Michigan, the State of Florida has no licensing requirements for locksmith service providers, a factor which may have helped regulating the credibility of these workers. "While most local locksmiths work under an established brand and reputation, there are those who go under the radar."

Finding a credible local locksmith ahead of time is one way of avoiding being scammed. The Oakland County locksmith shares, “You’d want to find your preferred locksmith service before something happens. These experts provide assistance that is worth every penny. And the best part is, you won’t get abused.”

A reliable locksmith offers honest quotes over the phone and is obligated to follow the initial billing.
