  • Thousand Oaks Commission Votes in Favor of New Condos Reports BoiseMovers.Org

(Transportation-News.com, September 29, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - After a 4-1 vote, the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission has approved the building of 55 new condominiums on the former site of the Conejo Mobile Home Park.

The project must await another approval from the City Council next month, but Joseph Bednar plans to build 55 new condominiums on 1200 Newburry Road.

"I think we've come up with a really good design," he said. "We're moving forward with the redevelopment of Conejo Mobile Home Park, and it should be a nice, beautiful project when it's all done."

This project is far from new and the battle for this new development is not new either.

In 2005, Bednar revealed plans to redevelop the area, which is currently occupied by mobile homes. His plans were squashed by the Mobile Home Park Initiative, which restricted the use of mobile home areas. The initiative stipulated that development on these areas should be limited to only mobile home-related developments unless the developers provide a new location for the residents.

The two sides reached a settlement that allowed Bednar to build the 55-unit development. He received a $100,000 in credit to help him with the development fees, as well. His side of the bargain was to dismiss his pending lawsuit against the city.

Not all are comfortable with the deal, however. One of the opponents is Commissioner Peter Turpel. He shared his concerns, saying, "What weighs on my mind is the potential for continuing litigation against the city.”

"I would be inclined to move forward with the way it is presented to us now,” Turpel adds.

Agreeing with Turpel is a fellow commissioner, Doug Tapking, who said it had been "a long hard road to get to this particular point. I'm fine with it at this point."
