  • DreamWorks and Fox Agree to Unprecedented Deal to create a Dozen Movies by 2016 reports Premium Animations

(Transportation-News.com, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Twentieth Century fox has penned a deal with DreamWorks Animation to creation a dozen movies through June of 2016. The deal is marked as the most ambitious deal set for an animation house in the history of Hollywood.

The movies include “B.O.O. Bureau of Otherworldly Operations”, which will be out in November of 2015, “How to Train Your Dragon 3” dated for June of 2016.

“B.O.O” is based on a concept by Tony Leondis, who helped create “Igor”. Producer Maryann Garger of “Flushed Away” is putting her name to the flick, along with screenwriter Tom Wheeler of “Puss in Boots”.

“This is the moment when we can declare that we will have three films a year going forward on a continuing basis,” DWA Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaschke said in an interview with THR. “Every one of the movies in our lineup – whether it is an original film or a sequel to one of our beloved franchises – comes from the unique and special vision of our filmmakers, and we look forward to joining together with Fox to make them available to family audiences starting next year,” Damaschke said.

“The Croods”, “Turbo”, Mr. Peabody & Sherman”, “Me and My Shadow” are set for theaters in 2013. Eight other titles including “How to Train Your Dragon 2” and “Kung Fu Panda 3” are also slated to be in the works.

DWA had been prepared for a large deal as their current agreement with Paramount was coming to an end at the close of 2012. Fox is the partner that stepped up and the addition of DWA to Fox Animation Studios and Blue Sky gives the company considerable power in the industry.

“When I look at these movies, I am so proud because they are the results of years of work. This last year, while we waited to find out who our new partner would be, we could have targets for them. It was fantastic to be finally be able to sit down with Fox and date them. We’ve come up with a great release plan,” Damaschke said.

DreamWorks will now be set for three movies per year. Their previous schedule only had them produce one three-movie year in their existence.

“It’s unprecedented for any studio to do three animated films in a year and they’ve been gearing up for some time,” Fox Filmed Entertainment chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos said.

He and fellow Fox Filmed Entertainment chairman-CEO Tom Rothman added: “We have had the privilege not only to view many of these films in their various stages but also to meet the incredible leadership teams behind each one, and we are very confident about DreamWorks Animation’s robust future slate.”
