  • Experts deem Apple iPhone 5 easier to repair than predecessors report My iBroke

(Transportation-News.com, October 20, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Despite Apple’s reputation for manufacturing hard-to-repair gadgets, a leading publisher of online repair guides for consumer electronics gave the new iPhone 5 a 7 out of 10 rating for repairability.

According to iFixit, the iPhone 5 is simpler to repair than the iPhone 4S.

However, as with its predecessors, the new model uses a pentalobe screw to attach the outer case, meaning a specialized screw driver is required to remove it.

Meanwhile, several internal parts are attached to a single ribbon cable, driving up the cost of repair when even one of them fails.

The phone’s much lauded Retina display poses additional home repair problems. “The front glass, digitizer, and LCD are all one component, thereby increasing cost of repair,” said an iFixit spokesperson.

On the other hand, the gadget’s front-to-back construction makes removing the display and accessing the battery easy, whereas the process was troublesome with previous iPhone models.

The bottom line is, as long as you have a pentalobe screwdriver, home repairs to the iPhone 5 should be a breeze.
