  • Stevens Auto Centre Feels Big Gains in Sales of SUVs and Utility Vehicles Signals Strengthening Economy

(Transportation-News.com, October 08, 2012 ) Homebush,NSW—The August report for new car sales showed big gains, with new vehicle sales being up 6.2% for the month in Australia. According to reports, the increase in sales was led by a jump in sales of sports utility and commercial vehicles.

The report showed that SUVs saw an 18.6% increase in sales compared to the year before at the same time, light commercial vehicles saw a 19.1% increase from the previous year, and the heavy truck sector saw a sales increase of 11.7% over the year before.

Stevens Auto Centre, located in Homebush, NSW, which specializes in light commercial vehicles and 4 wheel drive vehicles, including the sale of the Holden Rodeo in Sydney, feels the sales numbers are an indicator of a bigger trend for the Australian economy.

Stevens, which is a family-owned and operated UTE specialist in Sydney, that has been in operation since 1984, and specializes in the sale of vehicles like the Ford Ranger in Sydney and the Ford Transit in Sydney, says these types of numbers are indicative of a strengthening Australian economy, and that the purchase of light commercial vehicles means businesses are feeling more confident to make big investments.

“We’ve been in the business of selling light commercial vehicles for nearly thirty years, so we know that when we see a big boom in auto sales, led by the sale of SUVs, light commercial vehicles and heavy trucks, that we’re seeing positive signs for the economy,” said the owner of Stevens Auto Centre. “It takes a certain level of confidence in the economy and the business sector for business owners to start making larger investment purchases, like commercial vehicles, and when we see a big rise in those numbers, it usually means that business owners are more confident, and more willing to spend on hiring, which means an uptick in the overall economy.”

Other reports have shown that the number of registered light commercial vehicles has risen 24.8% since 2007, making them the second fastest growing vehicle on the road in Australia, aside from motorcycles.
“The commercial vehicle market is one that will continue to thrive, we feel,” said the owner of Stevens Auto Centre. “As we see more and more encouraging economic data coming from Australian reports, we feel that the commercial vehicle market will continue to experience a boom, because business owners are gaining the confidence to make the big ticket purchases, like new vehicles.”
