(Transportation-News.com, October 08, 2012 ) Melville, Perth -- The Honda CR-Z has had a brief but very bright run in Australia, so far. The vehicle was recently awarded the Gold Ward at the Australian International Design Awards, according to Honda’s Australian headquarters. In addition, the sporty vehicle has taken home a slew of other awards and recognitions, including the 2011 Wheels Car of the Year and the Wheels Green Car Award, in the Sports Category. The CR-Z has also been the recipient of a number of international awards, as well.
According to Honda’s Australian headquarters, the AIDA awards chose to recognize the CR-Z because they look for design that is customer-centric, which Honda claims is their primary goal when it comes to creating a new design.
A recent press release touting the CR-Z’s big win has Honda saying, “That really cuts to the heart of it, because Honda has always held high the philosophy of ‘man maximum, machine minimum,’ creating cars that are exhilarating to drive, yet surrounding the driver in comfort and thoughtful design.”
According to Honda of Australia, in order to win the Gold Award by AIDA, the CR-Z had to exceed the Good Design Criteria in five categories: form, function, quality, safety, sustainability, and innovation.

The judges mentioned several of the most notable features of the CR-Z in their assessment, including its aerodynamic design, the 3-Mode Drive system, the manual transmission, which is a first in a hybrid vehicle and the Eco-Assist Driver Coaching. In addition judges made note of the quality and comprehensive safety features of the car.
