(Transportation-News.com, October 17, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- A Jaguar concept car, the C-X16, has been named Design Concept Car of the Year.
The two-seater C-X16, which inspired the new F-TYPE, debuted in Frankfurt in September 2011.
John Murdoch, president of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, announced the C-X16’s victory at the 2012 Scottish Car of the Year Awards.
“This new category for 2012 … recognizes that some of the most distinctive new models to hit the road take their origins from motor show concept cars,” Murdoch said.
The F-TYPE, also a two-seater, is a convertible sports car. It was unveiled recently at the Paris Motor Show.
“Most of these show stunners don’t see the light of day, but they are valuable for gauging public reaction to new ideas,” Murdoch said of the C-X16. “However, our winner has received such global praise that it has paved the way for a production version, which was unveiled only a couple of weeks ago in Paris.”
Both the C-X16 and the F-TYPE offer a new take on Jaguar’s distinctive grill, clamshell hood and low tail.
Jaguar’s director of design, Ian Callum, said the new models move the car-maker’s design into the “next generation.”
“It is great to be recognized for creativity, as well as for excellent, drivable cars,” said Callum, who accepted the concept car award.
The F-TYPE will hit showrooms in the UK in the middle of 2013. The aluminum sports car, which boasts a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine, will sell for about 58,000 pounds.
Last year, the motoring writers association named the E-type the “most iconic car of the last 50 years.”
