(Transportation-News.com, November 18, 2012 ) England, UK -- The Guardian newspaper has reported that its prints have lowered emissions by 9% in the twelve month ending March 2012. The huge decrease can be attributed to many of the GPC’s (Guardian Print Center) new ways of working including lowering water usage in ink in order to cut down on ink usage as a whole.
Guardian Print Center’s have made a real effort to better their company for environmental and sustainability reasons. They have lowered their water usage by 16% and slowed the ink motor speed by 23%, which dropped the damp setting of the print down 14%. Overall, these improvements helped lower black ink usage by 11% and color ink by 6%, which over time makes a huge impact not only for the company itself, but also for the environment.
GPC Manchester operations manager Phil Aitken also reported that with all of the new improvements to the printing process, the images in the prints have become much sharper. The Guardian has also installed “smart meters,” which gives the centers the ability to manage their own energy consumption.
In turn, this allows for the air to stay at a consistent temperature in the rooms, which overtime can save a lot of money and a lot of energy. The GPC’s took their new ways to the next level by putting sensors in the urinals in the Manchester division.
Guardian Print Center’s have made a real effort to lower their emissions in new, creative ways. What they have done has paved the way for other printing companies to follow in their footsteps.
