(Transportation-News.com, February 23, 2013 ) London, U.K -- After what was a very strong showing in new-car sales in December, some area dealers have feared that a slump that hit January that is not all that unusual.
However, January sales in the four-county Dallas Fort Worth area have given the new year a rousing start for such dealers. They have seen an overall increase of 18.3% over the same month last year, according to the Freeman Metroplex Recap of new-vehicle sales.
Collin and Denton counties, which are prosperous and growing suburbs, reported the largest jumps in new-vehicle sales that will increase the 35.9% in Collin County, while there was a 48.2% increase in Denton County.
While there are few trends that one can take from a one-month new-vehicle sale, the increase within January have to be a positive sign for dealers who were prepared for much worse.
Analyst have predicted that new-vehicle sales will cool off nationally over this year, with only a 5% increase expected. That constitutes just over 15 million overall.
Still, new vehicle sales nationally are also nabbing a fast start in January, increasing 14% overall. It was the first time since 2008 that U.S. Sales topped 1 million.
George Hoffer, who is a business professor at the University of Richmond thinks that the early momentum is likely to continue. Several new models of pickups such as the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and the Toyota Tundra are likely to stir sales within the truck segment. That segment is an important one for the Texas Market.
Hoffer stated that there are some variables worth noting. “Gasoline prices are always a potential kink,” he said. “But the continued relative price strength of used cars gives [consumers] a stronger chit in getting that new car.”
