(Transportation-News.com, April 05, 2013 ) Chicago, IL -- If one wishes to attain cheap car insurance rates, then it is best for that individual to avoid Louisiana and Michigan, according to a new analysis from Insure.com.
The insurance rate comparison site has collected data and released the average annual premium for each state, finding that Louisiana is $2,700 per, while Michigan is at $2,500, followed by Georgia at $2,200.
Florida, however, was a bargain for the southeast, ranking No. 33 with $1,369.
The report based its finding on additional analysis data that was provided by Quadrant Information Services, which attained rates for over 750 models from six large insurers.
Rates compiled were for a single 40-year-old man with a clean driving record and strong credit who commutes 12 miles to work daily. Policy limits were set at $100,000 from injury liability for a single person, and $300,000 for all injuries, with $50,000 for property damage. The rates included uninsured motorist coverage.
The comparative rankings by state gave an idea of how policies at the state level can affect the rates per each, says Insure.com's editorial director Amy Danise.
Within the state of Louisiana there were several factors that kept the rates higher than anywhere else. Drivers injured in accidents tend to file bodily injury claims more often than any other state. Medical costs increased due to this fact, and so insurers have to pay more for the claims.
Simultaneously, less urban states benefit from overall lower rates due to less traffic congestion and lowered accident rates. Maine ranks as the cheapest state overall, with the average premium sitting at $900, followed by Iowa at $1,000. "You don't have all these cars next to each other crashing into each other," she said.
