A short video about the new product Gaffer Power, a premium grade Gaffer Tape

(Transportation-News.com, February 17, 2014 ) Vancouver, BC -- Launching a new product line of ‘gaffer' Adhesive Tape might seem a little bizarre, particularly when very few people even know what it is. But the maker of Gaffer Power, Martin Gage is so passionate about this tape; he just couldn't resist the challenge.

"I love this tape and use it for so many things. We're a very small player in this field and we're certainly not out to compete against our rivals. The main mission is to provide high quality tape to the industry professional, while educating the public into it's many benefits."

Gaffer tape is primarily used in theatre, film and television productions as well as during live performances. Its name refers to a Chief Lighting Technician on a film set, often referred to as a ‘gaffer'. The most common use for Gaffer tape is securing cables to a stage floor, a wall or other surface, either for safety or to keep them out of view of the audience or camera. Once a cable is secured, it is said to be ‘gaffed'. It is also used in the automotive industry, as a replacement to duct tape.

Due to it being manufactured in small quantities, you're not going to find Gaffer Tape at your local hardware store. It can be purchased online or at various specialized camera stores.

"And that's what I'd love to change" adds Mr. Gage, "having our gaffer tape on a shelf at Home depot would be a dream come true. For now, the job is to get the word out there on how this tape can be used for everything, it's better than duct tape."

Gaffer tape is often mistaken for duct tape. The main difference is that it can be removed cleanly due to its synthetic petroleum-based adhesive rather than a natural rubber adhesive.

"That's one of the reason it's better than duct, it pulls off easily and doesn't destroy what it was stuck to" says Mr. Gagnon.

Gaffer Power is manufactured in the US, and comes in two common sizes; (black) 2 inches x 30 yards & 60 yards. The company anticipates adding more variety of size and color in the coming months.
