  • Greenwood Locksmith Service Reveals Popular Industry Scam, Warns Public

(Transportation-News.com, April 01, 2015 ) Birmingham, MI – Greenwood Locksmith Service of Birmingham shares how consumers can easily be scammed by using "googling". "Everything's there on the Internet, including crooks," says the company. "You wouldn't know if the business that popped on the search engine is legit or not."

The Greenwood spokesperson continues, “Just recently, Houston-based TV station KPRC reported a woman in Texas and her encounter with a locksmith scammer. This woman accidentally locked her keys inside her vehicle, used Google in order to find a locksmith service. However, she was in for a rude surprise once the locksmith showed, charging her a whole lot more.”

However, instead of finding a company within the site, she followed the link leading her to the website of 24/7 Quick Pick Locksmith Services.

Kern disclosed that the first thing she saw was the service price, which only costs $19. However, this was not the case when the man showed up, quoting her an additional $165 from the original service charge. The news story is listed at http://www.click2houston.com/news/katy-woman-says-locksmith-advertised-19-service-charged-her-200/31645202.

"One mistake here is that consumers often go online rather than go outside," shares Greenwood. "Googling companies to contact is convenient. Unfortunately, little do these people know that scammers are already using the Internet in order to lure victims into their trap. It’s tough to tell the difference online."

The woman in Texas is not the only person who fell for this scam. Throughout the US, this popular locksmith scamming technique advertises low service charges, all below $30, only to charge consumers with a higher-than-a-hundred dollar quote once on site. "When one is caught in a desperate circumstance, they feel they have no other choice but to give in."

This could be prevented, however. Greenwood shares that one way to avoid such circumstances is to know a locksmith service beforehand, and to choose the established ones within the region.

“Losing keys is like losing the object it opens, and you’ll never know when that happens,” says the company lastly. “It’s good to know a credible locksmith service beforehand so you won’t have to face the dangers of online scams.”
