(Transportation-News.com, December 28, 2015 ) Orchard Park, New York -- Orchard Park, Buffalo and West New York residents have already felt the effects of the El'Nino winter with the "Witch Winds" of November. In Metro Buffalo wind gusts reached up to 60 miles per.

This past November, "As many as 22 trees in the city were damaged" says Buffalo's Mayor B. Brown during the November wind gusts. There were debris washed ashore in Hamburg beach and along the lakefront winds sent waves of water crashing over break walls causing Route 5 to close due to flooding. Surrounding areas had over 4000 homes without power.

All this is due to the El'Nino effect and experts predict this is the start of a potentially milder winter. So far temperatures were in the 40's on Christmas weekend and there has not yet been a significant snow fall yet. Looking back a year ago Orchard Park, Hamburg, West Seneca and Buffalo residents had large amounts of snow that had already fallen.

November 2014 was a winter Buffalo residents will not soon forget. "Snow drifts of 6 feet in some places, being locked in the house for days, government declaring a state of emergency, having to dig ourselves out of tons of snow... how can anyone forget that" says J. Matheson a current Buffalo Resident.
"A milder winter will be a much more desirable scenario compared to 2014... but we'll see" says Matheson.

After one of the most brutal lake effect winters in recent memory, Almanac dot com and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration experts agree with recent reports of a potentially milder winter.

This winter should be colder than normal, with below-normal precipitation and generally below-normal snowfall. The coldest periods expected are in early to mid-December, late December, and early to mid- and mid- to late January and February. The snowiest periods expected are in late November, December, mid-January, and early and late February.

In spite of less snow than last year, it's advised that Buffalo, Orchard Park, Hamburg, and Lackawanna residents lock down snow plowing contracts before the snow starts to be sure they not only save money but can move around the city freely and not get snowed in having to wait for a snow plowing service or worse... having to dig themselves out.
