  • Towing Service in Wixom Provides Insight on Impaired Driving

(Transportation-News.com, November 28, 2016 ) Wixom, MI – Right Now Towing, a locally owned and operated towing service in Wixom, recently provided insights on the dangers of impaired driving. While most drivers think of the dangers of chemical intoxication, such as alcohol and drugs, most ignore the more pressing danger of other forms of impairment.

“When you are in the towing business, you see things that give you a new appreciation for a healthy balanced life,” said Right Now’s operating manager. “In all of the accidents we have seen, those caused by impairment are not always caused from the obvious intoxifying factors, but rather from people who were drowsy and not functioning at their peak.”

According to one study, drowsy driving accounts for over 72,000 accidents across the United States every year, including about 6,000 fatal crashes. Right Now continued, “Too many people take driving drowsy for granted, but it can cause a lot of heart ache and drastically increases the danger of driving.”

A PubMed study published in 2000 demonstrated the exact risk of sleep deprivation. When a person is awake for between 17-19 hours, they operate at the same impairment as someone with a 0.05% blood alcohol level. When that person has been awake for 24 hours, that impairment increases to the same as 0.1% blood alcohol level.

“More than 70% of people have admitted to driving drowsy,” said Right Now Towing, “which means that nearly three quarters of the drivers on the road are operating at some level of impairment. That’s a really dangerous situation and is playing the odds in a game that is bound to be lost eventually.”

To avoid this danger, drivers should get at least 8 hours of sleep every day, should have consistent sleep schedules, and find alternative transportation when they are drowsy. When drivers need an auto wrecker, either because of a breakdown or an accident, trying to find a reliable Oakland County tow truck service while drowsy can be extremely challenging. Drivers should take time to evaluate the available tow truck options, and select a towing service that will be dependable when there is a need for a towing service.
