Transfer case require to be connected with a drive shaft for effectively transferring torque to the front axle. Transfer cases are also used for synchronizing rotations of rear and front wheel. The engine and axles are positioned separately in four-wheel drive (4WD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) commercial vehicles.
