(Transportation-News.com, August 18, 2012 ) Albuquerque, NM -- Although most of the big automakers sell cars in Mexico, buyers should not get any wise ideas about going south of the border to buy a car to drive back to your American town. The sad truth is that U.S. emission and structure regulations will not allow American drivers to keep a Mexican car here.
Despite this terrible state, it is still fun to have a glance over the border to view that which Americans could be driving. The Alfa Romeo 159 is one such car. With its Giugiaro-designed V-6 engine and all-wheel drive, the 159 is a fine Mexican ride at $44,500.
Another Alfa Romeo, the $36,000 Giulietta Quadrifoglio is a fun car that sits on the frame of the 2013 Dodge Dart. Though the $29,000 Alfa Romeo MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde is a three-door hatchback that is not quite as small as a MINI Cooper, it is a quick little car due to having a turbo 1.4-liter four cylinder engine.
Though the 264-horsepower, all-wheel-drive crossover Chevrolet Captiva is built by Daewoo in South Korea, it is fast vehicle that runs from $23,500 and $29,000. The sexiest car on the list is the Mastretta MXT 2.0. This $65,000 sports car is powered by a Ford 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that turns out a mucho grande 250 horsepower.
