(Transportation-News.com, August 21, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - A renowned name in the job of maintaining parking and ground transportation, Standard Parking has been awarded the contracts for parking at O’Hare and Midway Airports.
The O’Hare mayor Rahm Emanuel and the administration believe that the Standard Parking administration has the capability to manage the town’s parking and can benefit the town management as they have 20 years of experience in the parking business.
The mayor awarded $203 million in contracts to Standard Parking in order to manage parking and ground transportation at O’Hare and Midway Airports. Four companies were vying for the contract which includes five years of maintenance.
Other companies who were competitors of Standard Parking for the Midway contract were LAZ, Imperial Parking and CPS Chicago Parking LLC.
The contract includes $145 million in a field that included LAZ Parking. LAZ Parking was the operator appointed by the consortium. They paid $1.15 billion for leasing 36,000 parking meters of Chicago for 75 years.
Previously, Standard Parking was a part of the O’Hare parking consultancy for much of the 1980s before they took control of the entire operation in 1993 in exchange for a $250,000-a-year management fee.
Before getting the O’Hare and Midway contract, the Standard Parking had performed impressively in Millennium Park garage, Navy Pier, McCormick Place and the nearby Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Executive vice-president of Standard Parking, Mike Wolf said, “We’re delighted to continue to operate those facilities. Our objective, as always, is to give the customers a great parking experience in a way that reflects positively on the city of Chicago.”
Besides, Standard Parking has promised to save the city $3 million per year As far as the security of the parking areas are concerned, they were enhanced with the installation of high-intensity lighting, panic alarms, and elevator call boxes as well as constant vehicle patrols.
