  • Timmins Airport decides to expand its parking and equip with automated payment system reports KingsfordSmithParking.com.au

(Transportation-News.com, August 22, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Authorities at Victor M. Power airport have decided to expand its parking space due to an increased use of the airport over the past few years. The decision includes that the new parking space is to be equipped with an automated payment system.

The announcement was made on Thursday where the council approved the decision. The authorities had been turning a blind eye towards the overflowing parking in several areas over the past few months, and two of these areas have been announced to be the new real estate sites for the expansion.

According to the announced, a total of around 140 to 160 new stalls will be created with the expansion. According to David Dayment, manager of Timmins airport, the expansion should fulfill their immediate and long-term parking needs with the help and cooperation of the neighboring land owners.

The expansion will also feature an automated parking fee payment system. Both the existing lots and the proposed new lots will allow the public to pay the fee inside the terminal building and will completely eliminate the need for a parking booth attendant.

Dayment also stated that even though this initiative is not identified in the 2012 budget the lack of parking facilities is a primary concern. He also stated that they will be receiving a sum of $1.17 million as a subsidy from the Northern Ontario Heritage Funding Corporation for the expansion project.

An addition of 140 new stalls will generate $140,000 of new revenue. But some of these costs will be cancelled out against maintenance of the new lots and their expenditure according to Dayment. But overall they expected to reduce the annual operational expense by around $50,000 and the capital invested should take around four years to payback.

Villeneuve Construction was given the contract.
