(Transportation-News.com, August 23, 2012 ) Wilmington, NC -- The 2012 Volvo S60 has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) new auto crash safety test's top mark of “good.” The Volvo's fine performance stands in stark, and probably surprising, contrast to the other luxury sedans that were tested.
The new test has been designed to replicate a collision when 25% of the driver's side of a car strikes another car or another 5-foot-tall stationary object at 40 miles per hour. According to the IIHS, many road deaths are caused by these accidents.
Talking about the S60's performance on the new test, John Maloney, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, said, “When we decided to build a world-class sports sedan we made sure it was a great Volvo first and foremost. We set the benchmark on safety, and we continue to lead the crowd.”
Of the other 11 luxury sedans tested so far, only the Volvo and two others have passed.
